Keizer Station Heavy Equipment Fire - April 12th, 2007

Nature of Call: Vehicle Fire

Date: April 12th, 2007

Time of Call: 2:05 pm

End of Call: 6:58 pm

Location: 2575 Jorie Ln N (Keizer Station development)

Units on Scene: Duty 381, Engine 355, Engine 365, Medic 35, Medic 36, Rescue 353, Medic 36, Fire Marshal 371, Fire Marshal 372, Medic 32 (MCFD #1), Engine 715 (MCFD #1), Quick Response Unit 724 (MCFD #1), Medic 32 (MCFD #1).

Info: Report of a grinder on fire with explosions. 2nd caller reported that construction equipment has possibly hit a gas line and that subjects may be hurt.

Fire District Actions: Setup safe area, treat & transport injured equipment operator, apply water to uninvolved tractor, wait for Northwest Natural to shutdown gas line, extinguish recycler.

Dollar Loss: $500,000

Finally, extinguishment
After Northwest Natural shut off the gas line, we could finally put the fire out.

The next day, Northwest Natural wanted to inspect the line. A large crane was brought in to lift the 70,000 lb recycler.
