Recruit Training

Practice Burn

The Recruit Firefighter program is delivered in the first year of training. The Recruit portion of training is designed to deliver the essentials of basic firefighting. Training is delivered on Monday evenings and attendance is required.

This includes such topics as:

Fire Department Orientation

Fire Behavior

Self Contained Breathing Apparatus

Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operation

Firefighter Safety

Ground Ladders

Hoses & Fire Streams

Small Tools

Knots

Fire Extinguishers

Ventilation

Search and Rescue

Salvage and Overhaul

First Aid

Water Supply

Communications

Sprinklers

Building Construction

Fire Prevention and Public Education

All of these subjects must be completed to receive NFPA Accreditation as a Firefighter One. This level of accreditation is required by our Fire District and must be obtained during the probation period.

Written and task evaluations will be will be administered to all recruits and must be successfully passed.

Training is primarily held on Monday evenings. Other drills may be called as needed. During the recruit phase of training, attendance at all drills is mandatory.

The next portion of training will consist of Emergency Driving, followed by Apparatus Operations.
