Chairman Don Flesch called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. Commission members present were: Don Flesch, Lewis Latimer, Joe Miller and Marv Nisly. Commissioner Dave Peyton was unable to attend. Staff members present included Chief Examiner Monica Mersinger and Fire Chief Greg Frank.
Chairman Don Flesch warmly welcomed new Commissioner Marv Nisly.
Chairman Flesch requested any changes or corrections to the minutes. There were none. Lewis Latimer moved the minutes of the March 7, 2006, meeting be approved as mailed. Joe Miller seconded the motion. The motion carried with Commissioners Miller, Latimer and Flesch voting aye and in as much as Commissioner Mar Nisly was not at the previous meeting being recorded as an abstention.
Chairman Flesch requested correspondence and guest input. There was none.
There was no old business and the Commission moved into new business.
Chief Examiner Contract
The provided material regarding contracting with Local Government Personnel Institute (LGPI) for Chief Examiner services was discussed. Chief Frank and Chief Examiner Mersinger had met with LGPI and discussed the required services at length with them and felt comfortable with LGPIís ability and knowledge to provide sufficient services for the Fire District. The Commission enquired if other individuals could provide this service. Chief Examiner Mersinger commented that she had asked other individuals she knew if they wished to provide this service but they had not expressed an interest in doing so. Chief Frank said he knew of some individuals who might be interested but believed the Commission should contract with LGPI. Chair Don Flesch commented that the Commission had utilized LGPI at the inception of the Commission and their services had met the Commissionís needs and believed it was prudent to contract with LGPI. Chief Frank commented that LGPI provided services to numerous agencies in the State. Commissioner Nisly asked if staff had researched that becoming members of the agency was more cost effective; the cost of membership and therefore reduced hourly fees based upon the hours needed paying for the membership. Chief Frank replied they had researched this and based upon the few hours needed membership was not financial practical. Lewis Latimer moved that the Commission contract with LGPI for Chief Examiner Services. Joe Miller seconded the motion. The motion carried with a unanimous vote.
Firefighter/Paramedic Entrance Register
The Commissioners reviewed the current firefighter/paramedic entrance register.
Voluntary Employee Resignation & Request to be Placed on Entrance Register
The Commissioners reviewed the voluntary resignation letter and request by Matthew Miller be placed on the re-employment portion of the entrance register. Joe Miller moved that the resignation letter of Matthew Miller be approved and that his name be placed on the re-employment portion of the entrance register. The motion carried with an unanimous vote.
Set Next Meeting Date
The Commission established September 12, 2006, as the next Commission meeting.
Chair Don Flesch requested any other business, there was none.
